Delayed Splenic Rupture: A Rare Complication of Snakebites

Bites by venomous snakes can cause fatal systemic and coagulation disorders. Rare complications, such as compartment syndrome hemoperitoneum, may also require surgical intervention. Here, we describe our experience with an unusual case of snakebite-induced delayed splenic rupture. A 54-y-old male no specific medical history visited a local hospital for bite unidentified snake. He had been bitten on the left thumb was administered antivenom. discharged from after 3 d when his symptoms improved. However, he revisited emergency center 2 later, reporting dizziness diaphoresis. Focused abdominal ultrasonography computed tomography revealed large amounts intraperitoneal fluid collection hemoperitoneum rupture, respectively. The patient underwent immediate blood transfusion received antivenom treatment in department and, subsequently, splenectomy. Histopathologic findings at time surgery multifocal lacerations external surface spleen, fresh hemorrhage. recovered 7 without any complication.
